Every time I shoot a newborn session, I’m brought back to those memories of when my kids were newborns. Those precious and exhausting days. How can one forget, right?
As a newborn lifestyle photographer, I get invited into people’s homes to document what their ‘new normal’ is as they enter a life with a newborn. Whether this is a first baby or a sibling being added to their tribe, those moments and images are always so so special. Capturing those early days with your new bundle of joy is one of my greatest pleasures as a photographer. I really, really mean this, friends.
And you know what? We can spend all the time in the world planning for these sessions to go perfectly, but in reality all you need is yourself and your precious family. My approach is to go around your house, pick a few spots (probably the ones with best light), and just shoot, shoot, shoot! My priority is always to document your life as it is. Your family interactions, your precious new babe, siblings, doggies, and even grandma (if she’s around) are always very welcome!
And yes, of course I encourage all moms to find an outfit for them that makes them feel like a queen (because you are!!), and then find outfits for the rest of the fam that compliment with mom’s. If you have the energy, get your hair done and put some make up on , and just gift yourself an opportunity to be captured with those that matter to you the most! Give yourself permission to just enjoy the moment and be present in the realization that this is your new normal 🙂
When I think about my days with a newborn, the last thing I wanted to do is leave the house. I loved lounging around with my newborn in tow, breathing in every new smell, every new movement. I was extremely aware that newborn time, although seemingly slow, is also extremely fast (the ‘longest shortest time’ they call it). It would be gone before I know it and I wanted to bottle it up in my memories. That is exactly what I will do for you, friend!
If you love the simple things and ‘raw/real’ is your middle name. If you want to capture all these moments and actually be in the photo for once. If You appreciate timeless photography that will live through generations and will never loose its magic. Then, we are a perfect fit!
